MONTREAL RETROFUTURISM:
ARCHITECTURE MURAL STUDIES
MONTREAL RETROFUTURISM is a series of architecture-themed large format prints that were initially created as mural studies for large-scale production as a print exhibition, or as wall-size public art installations. All pieces in the series are created from transparency analog film shot in downtown Montreal (mainly in the underground city) and in Olympic Park at the Olympic Tower and the Biosphere. The Biosphere and Tower were constructed for two different events: the Biosphere, a massive geodesic dome designed by post-modernist architect and philosopher Buckminster Fuller, was built to function as the United States Pavilion at the Montreal Worlds Fair in 1967, and the Olympic Tower was built as part of the 1976 Summer Olympics. These structures are not only the most visually iconic in Montreal, but they have persisted and evolved beyond their initial utility.
