SUBTERRANEAN HARMONICS:
RAINIER ESOTERICS
This series of five unique monoprints were made from medium format film I shot while exploring the rainforests of Rainier for the RAINER BOTANY AND ESOTERICS photo shoots in 2017 and 2018 (see a blog post about the photo shoots here). The prints in this series are enlargements of the color transparency films and feature geometric design elements hand silk-screened in silver and gold metallic ink directly on the print.
The designs are a visual dialogue using mathematical and scientific symbols in an attempt to create a personal contemporary mythology of the forests of the Pacific Northwest. My continuing fascination with the concept of the nurse logs, and the interconnected nature of the trees, contributes much to the aesthetics of the symbolism.
Each piece is in the series is unique and will not be reproduced. Four of five pieces in this series are on currently on display in the “Contemporary Northwest Landscape” show at the Lynwood Convention Center until June 30, 2020.
