Quito, Ecuador in Super 8
I was in Ecuador in late October, about one week after the massive riots that shut down the city for almost the entire month had ended. The protests were a response to the new president’s austerity measures proposed by the IMF, and had effectively shut down Quito and the surrounding areas, to the point that the protests turned violent and unsafe for any type of travel within the city. I almost had to cancel my trip, but fortunately an agreement was reached between the protestors and the government, and the city was restored to almost normal function by the time I was there - you can still see some barbed wire protecting the government buildings and checkpoints in the film.
This film was shot on Agfachrome 200D on a Canon 814 camera, with some shots utilizing a Canon time-lapse adaptor.
