ACRYLIC AND ENAMEL PAINTINGS: 1999-2010
In private collections except where noted.
The paintings in gallery below were made between 1999 to 2010. The subject matter and style are heavily influenced by early to mid 20th Century poster illustration, and in some ways I think the crude, production line brush style was an homage to that aesthetic, but in reality it owed more to me getting impatient working on the same image for too long. I “learned” to paint as an art major in college, and my work was always never very polished or detailed. I took a break from painting after graduation to concentrate on photography and music journalism, but began painting again in 2000, returning to a high contrast, graphic style that was similar to what I was doing in college, later began experimenting with enamel painting on layers of plexiglass. The plexiglass experiments here ultimately led me to the screenprint plexiglass art objects I make to this day
This gallery contains the only documentation of these paintings, many of them are pixelated, low resolution photos due to a catastrophic hard drive failure in 2013 that wiped out all of my digital photos, including the documentation of my artwork up that moment. I was able to salvage lo-res images from websites and thumbnails, so there is a record, however there are six or seven large scale acrylic paintings that I don’t have any photos of and exist only in my memories now.
